Privacy Policy and POPIA Notice

How FinPath collects, uses, shares and retains personal information — and the rights you have over it.

Effective date: 19 October 2026Version: 2026-10-v1

This notice describes how FinPath handles personal information. It is written to reflect the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA) and must be reviewed by a South African legal or compliance professional before the site launches. Items marked as pending confirmation will be completed as part of that review.

1. Who is responsible for your information

FinPath is the operator of this website and is the responsible party for the personal information described in this notice. This means FinPath determines why and how that information is processed.

FinPath provides general financial education and illustrative calculators. We do not provide personalised financial advice, arrange financial products or perform regulated intermediary services.

Our full legal entity name, registration number and business address will be published here once confirmed. Until then, please use the contact details in section 9 for any privacy query.

2. What information we collect

The calculators on this website run entirely in your browser. The figures you enter — such as income, debts, investment amounts and assumed growth rates — are not transmitted to us, not stored, and not associated with you. No contact details are needed to use them.

We collect personal information only when you choose to submit the enquiry form. That information may include:

  • Your full name.
  • Your cellphone number.
  • Your email address, if you provide one.
  • Your preferred contact method and preferred contact time.
  • The enquiry topic you select and any message you choose to write.
  • A record of your consent: whether you agreed to us handling the enquiry, whether you separately opted in to marketing, the wording version you agreed to, and the date and time of your submission.
  • The page you submitted from and any campaign attribution available in the link you followed to reach us.

We do not ask for and do not want identity numbers, banking credentials, card details, medical information or any other unnecessary sensitive information. Please do not include such details in the message field.

3. Why we use your information

We use the information you submit only to respond to the enquiry you sent us, using the contact method and time you selected. This is the purpose for which you provided it.

If you separately opted in to marketing communications, we use your contact details to send you occasional financial education content. You may withdraw that permission at any time and it will not affect our handling of your enquiry.

We do not use your information to build a financial profile, to generate a personalised recommendation, or to make automated decisions about you.

4. Our lawful basis for processing

Under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA), we process your information on the basis of your consent and, where applicable, to take steps you have requested in connection with a potential engagement.

Consent for us to respond to your specific enquiry is separate from consent to receive marketing communications. Ticking the marketing box is optional and is never a condition of submitting an enquiry.

We do not rely on a checkbox alone to establish a lawful basis for every possible purpose. The final wording of this notice and the consent controls will be reviewed against the confirmed operating model and lawful basis before the site goes live, and may be updated as a result.

5. Who may receive your information

Your information is accessible to authorised FinPath personnel who need it to handle your enquiry.

We use service providers to operate this website and to deliver enquiry notifications — for example, our website hosting provider and the email service that notifies us of a submission. These providers process information on our instructions.

We do not sell your contact details. We do not disclose them to any other party without an appropriate lawful basis and transparent disclosure to you. If that changes — for example, if enquiries are ever referred to a licensed intermediary — this notice will be updated to name the categories of recipients before that happens.

We may disclose information where we are legally required to do so.

6. How long we keep it

We keep enquiry information only for as long as is needed to handle your enquiry and to meet any applicable record-keeping obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymised.

Marketing contact details are kept until you withdraw your permission or ask to be removed.

Specific retention periods will be confirmed alongside the legal review of the operating model and stated here once finalised.

7. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • Ask whether we hold personal information about you and request access to it.
  • Ask us to correct or update information that is inaccurate, irrelevant, excessive, misleading or unlawfully obtained.
  • Ask us to delete information that we are no longer authorised to keep.
  • Object to processing, or withdraw a consent you previously gave.
  • Ask us not to use your information for marketing at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa if you believe your information has been processed unlawfully.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 9. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request, so that we do not disclose or change information belonging to someone else. We will respond within a reasonable period.

8. How we protect your information

Enquiry submissions are sent over an encrypted connection and protected against automated spam submissions.

We apply access controls so that enquiry information is available only to authorised personnel, and we review these arrangements as the site develops.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure. If we become aware of a security compromise affecting your personal information, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by POPIA.

9. Cookies and contacting us

Cookies

This website sets cookies and similar technologies only where they are needed to make the site work, including protecting the enquiry form against automated submissions. Advertising and third-party tracking cookies are not currently used.

If analytics or advertising tools are added in future, this notice will be updated and appropriate consent controls will be introduced before those tools are activated.
